Blackjack is sometimes known as “21” and involves one-on-one play: you versus the dealer. First, you have to bet a certain amount of money on a hand; it’s advisable to start off small and increase your wager as you become more comfortable with how the game works. Once you’ve bet and clicked “Deal,” the dealer will hand out your hopefully lucky cards. You will have a face-up card and a face-down card, just like the dealer. Look at your hand and the dealer’s face-up card.

The next step is to make a decision as to whether you want to stick or twist (get another card). The goal of the game is to reach 21, the best hand you can get is an ace and a ten- this is blackjack and if you get it right, it’s likely you’ll win. If you get 17-19, it can be a tough decision to stick or not, so think what the dealer could be holding and make the decision accordingly.

If you bust (go over 210, you have lost the hand. The dealer could bust too, and if they do and you don’t, you win. If you both bust, however, it’s a win for the dealer, so they do have a slight edge over you as with all casino games.

Tips for Blackjack

  • If you are dealt a double 10, split these cards (you can do this with any doublers). This will increase your chances of getting a good outcome and give you an advantage over the dealer.
  • Have a decent bankroll to play blackjack, particularly if you are quite serious about it. You can start off with small bets and increase them; don’t get overly confident though.
  • If you are getting dressed due to being on a losing streak, stop playing and try again another day.
